Lesvos is a beautiful island and we all love the island, three of us also live there completely. Time and again we have come across stray animals in the villages, on the streets, on the beach, in tavernas and in hotels that were injured or sick and needed help. They are also always hungry, these dear animal souls who have no home. For these animals, we want to make life a little easier and nicer.
When we founded the association in 2012, our focus was on medical care, feeding and castration of the street animals. We only wanted to place animals that could no longer be released back onto the streets. Our philosophy is:
We feel for the animals, but we do not suffer with them.
We soon realised that this was a utopia. From the beginning, the local population used our enclosure to anonymously "dispose" of their unwanted puppies and dogs at night, so that we had to take care of a large number of dogs in a very short time.
In terms of animal welfare, however, we see the abandonment of the dogs with us as a big step forward compared to the earlier practice of simply dumping them somewhere in the woods or fields or throwing them in the rubbish. So we are happy to see to it that all of them find a loving home.
We are therefore happy about any support. There are many ways to do this: Donations, hospitations, flight sponsorships, sharing on social media and with your friends, active
and the most wonderful help of all.... give an animal a loving home.
Thank you very much, your Tierfreunde Lesbos e.V.
